Floral Landscape Sculpture

This mosaic sculpture is made using glass shards, glass gems, mirror and various semiprecious stones and minerals. The minerals used include: white quartz, amethyst, rose quartz, rhodonite, rhodchrosite, blue lace agate, tigereye, and carnelian. The mirror pieces are used to create a sense of motion where the water is depicted. The convex and concave shards of glass allow for a topographic quality to form across the mosaic surface. This sculpture is made with interlocking forms. There are five inserts which go into the larger form, two flowers, two clouds, and the sun. At its tallest this sculpture is 6ft 5inches. It is 24” wide and 18” deep.

“Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite” Kite

This mosaic was created for the “Kites: Art Takes Flight” competition held by the Main Line Center for the Arts in Haverford, PA. It is based on the Beatles’ song “Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite” from their Sgt. Peppers album. The song was created from an antique circus poster circa 1847 that John Lennon had purchased. My kite features the Beatles in their Sgt. Peppers uniforms with circus performers from illustrations derived from the original poster . There are a series of circus acts that move around the kite form. The front and sides show the performers doing their routines. The back shows several of them in repose. The grout joints act as drawing lines. A clear example of this is John Lennon’s eye glasses which are inferred via the grout joints. This mosaic is made using ceramic tile, glass gems, citrine, tiger-eye, brass, aluminum, copper, binghamite, white quartz, red jasper, unakite, leopardskin jasper, pyrite and rhodonite. This mosaic is 60” vertically. It is 7 inches thick and approximately four feet across.

Gustav Klimt’s “The Kiss”
on the form of a dog

This mosaic was created for the Art Unleashed competition to benefit the Main Line Center for the Arts in Haverford, PA. It is one of fifty dogs positioned around the Main Line area from April 15, 2002 - Aug 31, 2002. The dogs are 55”x40”x18”. My design was a tranlation of Klimt’s “The Kiss” into mosaic from a 2 dimentional flat to a 3 dimentional dog form. I used ceramic tile, glass gems, and various polished stones, including amethyst,
rose quartz, white quartz, carnelian, jade, tigereye, peridot, and citrine. This mosaic is designed for exterior use.
